6,700 Company Transactions: Industry Led German M&A

Between 2000 and 2016, industrial companies accounted for the largest number of M&A transactions in Germany. More than 6,700 company transactions took place in the industrial sector, representing 19.2% of the total recorded market.

Industry led German M&A activity

The high share of industrial transactions reflects the importance and breadth of Germany’s manufacturing base. Strategic consolidation, succession and the acquisition of specialist capabilities all contribute to transaction activity across the sector.

Technology ranked second

Technology companies ranked second, with more than 5,434 transactions and a 15.6% share. The figures highlight the importance of both industrial businesses and technology providers in the German M&A market during the period analysed.
